SUMMARY:Winter Arts Snow Sculpting Festival 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Winter Arts Snow Sculpting Festival offers a free\, family-friendly gathering with hands-on activities\, food and beverage vendors\, and People’s Choice voting in Washington Park and inside the Dubuque Museum of Art from 12-4 PM. Activities include a community snow sculpting area with preformed blocks of snow and tools provided for anyone to try their hand at snow sculpting. \nThroughout the week\, teams of professional\, amateur\, and collegiate sculptures will compete for a $1000 prize by carving giant snow creations from 6x6x8 blocks of solid snow. All teams will have the chance to be crowned the People’s Choice Award-winner on Sunday\, which comes with a $300 cash prize. \nThe Winter Arts Snow Sculpting Festival is an annual celebration of community creativity\, and coincides with more than the Super Bowl this year. The 2025 festival also serves as the closing event for DuMA’s landmark exhibition\, Dubuque by Design: Celebrating 150 Creative Years. That exhibition inspires this year’s theme: Creative Community. We believe the act of creating together inspires us to push the boundaries of art\, strengthens our community\, and is just good fun. \nWinter Arts is a community festival produced by the Dubuque Museum of Art (DuMA) in partnership with the City of Dubuque’s Office of Arts and Culture. SUMMARY:Ukrainian relief musical program
DESCRIPTION:DuMA will host an “Afternoon of Music and Contemplation” in support of the Ukrainian people on Sunday\, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Museum. \nThis musical program is sponsored by Sue Lindsay\, DuMA supporter and former volunteer. Violinists Hana Velde and Ann Duchow and soprano Hannah Von Mulert will perform Ukrainian folk music as well as works by composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky\, whose family had Ukrainian roots\, and composer Reinhold Gliere\, whose music incorporates Ukrainian folk tunes. \nWhile this is a free event\, the Museum encourages you to donate to World Central Kitchen. \nWCK uses the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis. From the onset of the Ukrainian War\, the WCK Chef Relief Team brought and continues to deliver tens of thousands of fresh nourishing meals daily to Ukrainian cities and surrounding regions\, bringing hope and sustenance to those in bomb shelters\, hospitals\, churches\, seniors\, and people trapped on the front lines. \nYour donation will be used to support WCK’s emergency food relief efforts. \nClick Here to Donate to World Central Kitchen

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Joyce Polance
DESCRIPTION:Tune in at 1:00 pm on Facebook or YouTube to watch the live premier of our virtual conversation between Artist Joyce Polance and DuMA’s Director of Education\, Margaret Buhr. \n\n\nThe two will discuss Polance’s current exhibition of 14 oil paintings made since 2015\, in which the artist expresses deeply felt\, dark emotions through the visual forms of landscapes and cityscapes. These expressionistic paintings meld realism with abstraction\, and focus on movement\, energy\, and emotion. Natural and urban landscapes take on human characteristics that reflect our uncertain times. \n\nPolance was a Chicago-based painter for over 26 years before a move in December 2020\, accelerated by COVID-19\, took her away from the Midwest and back to her home state of New York. Polance was born in New York City in 1965. She attended Wesleyan University and received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She has exhibited internationally and has work in many private and corporate collections. \nDuMA Facebook Event \nDuMA’s Youtube Channel
