DESCRIPTION:Tune in at 1:00 pm on Facebook or YouTube to watch the live premier of our virtual conversation between Artist Joyce Polance and DuMA’s Director of Education\, Margaret Buhr. \n\n\nThe two will discuss Polance’s current exhibition of 14 oil paintings made since 2015\, in which the artist expresses deeply felt\, dark emotions through the visual forms of landscapes and cityscapes. These expressionistic paintings meld realism with abstraction\, and focus on movement\, energy\, and emotion. Natural and urban landscapes take on human characteristics that reflect our uncertain times. \n\nPolance was a Chicago-based painter for over 26 years before a move in December 2020\, accelerated by COVID-19\, took her away from the Midwest and back to her home state of New York. Polance was born in New York City in 1965. She attended Wesleyan University and received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Fashion Institute of Technology. This event is also made possible by the generous support of our corporate sponsor\, Barton Wealth Management. \n\n\nSculpting will take place Wednesday through noon on Saturday\, with teams working day and night to turn blocks of 288 cubic feet of snow into masterful works of art. The winning team will have the opportunity to represent the state at the 2022 U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition in Lake Geneva\, WI. \n\n\nSculptors begin their work on Wednesday\, February 10 and have through noon on Saturday to transform their 288 cubic feet block of snow into a work of art. We apologize for the inconvenience.\n  \nArt Talk Series is from March – November 2020 \nMark your calendars for the series of art talks\, Introduction to American Art\, offered between March and November of 2020. These talks are offered by Carol Ehlers\, who is an Art Insights Volunteer for the Art Institute of Chicago and hosted in partnership with the Dubuque Art Museum (Dubuque\, IA)\, Bettendorf Public Library (Bettendorf\, IA)\, and the Butterworth Center (Moline\, IL). Carol is also Volunteer Docent at Figge Art Museum (Davenport\, IA). \nThis series of art talks provides information about American Art\, in anticipation of touring exhibit\, For America: Paintings from the National Academy of Design\, that will be on view at the Figge Art Museum beginning in February of 2021. The exhibit offers a unique history of American painting from 1809 to the present day.
