In the morning\, families are invited to collaborate and design fashions inspired by Dubuque icons\, from Lange ski boots to H. B. Glover pajamas (immortalized by Richard Bissell on stage and screen as The Pajama Game). Design your own Dubuque factory\, Millwork building\, or new museum\, all to help us create the city of the future. For those who need a little more of a prompt\, collaborate with baristas from Bob and Lou’s to design a new custom coffee drink. \nFill Your Factory! \nGrab a piece of folded paper\nOn 1 side design the outside of your factory.\nYou can include doors\, big vents\, billboards and advertisements.\nThen Flip it over and show what’s happening on the Inside of your factory.\nWhat does your factory build? Do people make your product or do machines? How does your factory run?\nTry practicing collage techniques by using magazines\, cut out shapes\, and colorful paper to bring your factory to life.\nWhen you’re all done you can add your factory to the art museums tiny factory district. \nChair Challenge! \nImagine creating a one-of-a-kind chair\, designed totally by you! Use recycled materials and your imagination to make a unique functional chair.\nWhen designing your furniture try to think about who is sitting in your chair. A toddler? Maybe a astronaut? SUMMARY:Randy Richmond Gallery Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday\, July 23 to hear a gallery talk from Randy Richmond\, a still-life photographer. The humble still life—the genre of art that features only an arrangement of objects—has managed\, over the centuries\, to contain multitudes. \nStill-life images are their own worlds\, greater than the sum of their parts; they have been radical formal experiments\, markers of colonialism and wealth\, stark reminders of mortality\, love letters and portraits\, and even illustrations of scientific knowledge. \nRandy will talk about his inspiration\, process and technique in the exhibition Subtext and Overstory: Still-life Photography by Randy Richmond.

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Joyce Polance
DESCRIPTION:Tune in at 1:00 pm on Facebook or YouTube to watch the live premier of our virtual conversation between Artist Joyce Polance and DuMA’s Director of Education\, Margaret Buhr. \n\n\nThe two will discuss Polance’s current exhibition of 14 oil paintings made since 2015\, in which the artist expresses deeply felt\, dark emotions through the visual forms of landscapes and cityscapes. These expressionistic paintings meld realism with abstraction\, and focus on movement\, energy\, and emotion. Natural and urban landscapes take on human characteristics that reflect our uncertain times. \n\nPolance was a Chicago-based painter for over 26 years before a move in December 2020\, accelerated by COVID-19\, took her away from the Midwest and back to her home state of New York. Polance was born in New York City in 1965. She attended Wesleyan University and received a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She has exhibited internationally and has work in many private and corporate collections. \nDuMA Facebook Event \nDuMA’s Youtube Channel
