SUMMARY:Second Saturday: ART in the PARK Snow Sculpting Event
DESCRIPTION:Beat the winter blahs with a very special February Second Saturdays event!\nThree professional snow-sculpting teams will compete to see who can carve the best snow creation\, including a team from Dubuque who participated in last year’s U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition. The carving begins on Wednesday\, Feb. 7\, and ends at Noon on Saturday\, Feb. 10\, as the public event beings. \nJoin the Winter fun on Saturday\, at Washington park directly in front of the Museum\, and vote for your favorite sculpture. There will be both a “People’s Choice” award and a juried winner\, announced at 3:45 PM. \nBut the fun isn’t only for the professionals! On Saturday\, community members may try their hand at some sculptures of their own\, either individually or in teams. Tools will be provided. Note that there will be a limited amount of snow-blocks available for carving. \nIn addition to the outside festivities\, Second Saturdays continues inside the Dubuque Museum of Art. DESCRIPTION:Our July Second Saturday will feature “The Snow Queen.” Eulenspiegel’s adaptation of this beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale uses delightfully crafted miniature Bohemian marionettes that interact on the pages of two extra-large popup storybooks. The story follows Gerda as she travels to the ends of the earth to save her best friend\, Kai\, from the Snow Queen. Along her way she meets a host of eccentric characters from a naughty little robber girl to a magical flower lady to a talking crow. The cast also includes a flamboyant storyteller who relates to the audience as well as the puppets. A feast for the eyes and the heart!

DESCRIPTION:Join us every second Saturday of the month for new\, exciting\, family-friendly programming! This Saturday\, the Dubuque Museum of Art Family Matinee program will feature The Fever River Puppeteers in  “Scribble\,” an original hand\, rod and shadow puppet show. \nScribble tells the story of a magical mouse who whisks away four school friends to an enchanted land where they become the characters in the stories they are writing. Zelena\, who loves fairy tales\, becomes a princess\, while Maia\, who lives to swim\, is a mermaid. NASCAR-loving Jack becomes a race car driver\, while science geek Tyrone finds he is an astronaut. The trouble is that their villains and settings have gotten mixed up in transit. \nThe family-friendly matinee programs are free and sponsored by Mediacom.
