A Brief History of Civil Rights
African-Americans and whites were the founders of the NAACP in 1909. The presentation addresses the history of the organization including contemporary social concerns related to economics, education, education, health, public safety and criminal justice, and voting rights.

The Dubuque Museum of Art, in partnership with the City of Dubuque’s Art in the Park initiative and Winterfun, Inc., hosts the Winter Arts In The Park – 2019 Snow Sculpting Competition January 26, 2019 in Washington Park in Downtown Dubuque.
Come to see pro & student teams battle it out for People’s Choice and Best in Snow. You can vote for your favorite team from 12 pm to 3:30 pm. Announcement of the winners will be made at 3:45 pm. Everyone is also invited to try their hand at snow sculpting in the community/family area. Materials and tools will be available on site.
Snow Sculpting teams can be observed creating their outdoor masterpieces beginning January 23rd up until the celebration on the 26th.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In Iowa: A Message for Today
A history about the October 1962 Iowa visit told from the perspectives of a family that greeted Dr. King upon his arrival, the President of Coe College, and the minister at Cornell College and excerpts from the lecture/sermon Dr. King presented.

Lynda Mackie will play Corita Kent, (1918 – 1986) an American artist, educator, advocate for social justice and a Roman Catholic religious sister.
Come early to secure a seat for this popular free series, which is often standing room only. Doors open at 12:45 PM.
Performance is in conjunction with the exhibition Just to Live is Holy, which features a number of works by Corita.
Dubuque Main Street’s annual Fall Into Art FREE gallery tour through Downtown Dubuque’s Cultural Corridor will feature 10 unique art exhibitions in 2018, thanks to presenting sponsor Premier
Bank. The art crawl will be held from 4:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 5.
These 10 downtown art exhibits will be featured:
A combination of gallery owners, curators, educators, students, and working artists will welcome you into their spaces to share their collections of paintings, pottery, photography, mixed media art,
installation art, design graphics, and more.
The Fall Into Art Gallery Tour is open to the public and FREE of charge.
Participants may tour the 10 art locations in any order by walking, biking, riding, or driving.
On Friday evening we are offering our free shuttle service, courtesy of Premier Bank, to all 10 galleries. The trolleys will make loops, with one stopping at each participating gallery approximately every 25 minutes.
Carnegie-Stout Public Library and the Dubuque Museum of Art are partnering to show the movie “Loving Vincent” at DuMA on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free, but seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The 2017 Oscar-nominated movie “Loving Vincent” is the world’s first fully painted feature film. A team of 125 artists used the same techniques as Vincent Van Gogh to create each of the film’s 65,000 frames out of oil paintings on canvas. We will watch “Loving Vincent” at the Dubuque Museum of Art, after DuMA Education Director Margaret Buhr talks about Van Gogh’s life and work.
