Using the current exhibitions for inspiration, students will learn the basics of looking at and how to speak to
others about the amazing world of art. Students will be invited to share their knowledge as docents during the Museum’s community Day in April!

Students will examine the history of self-portraits and compare them to the “selfies” of today. A self-portrait will be created using a “selfie” students have taken.

Students will try out the techniques and tricks of portrait drawing, including the study of facial proportions and learn about the subtle shading needed to bring their portraits to life! Students have the option to create a self-portrait, study a classmate, or use a photograph as a portrait subject.

Students will explore the connections between art and science. After a tour of the Flow: Journey through the Mississippi River Watershed exhibition, students will make their own artistic contribution to science by creating a science illustration using mixed media.
